At our latest Sew Kansas workshop, Jan selected this stunning Japanese print cotton to make a Liberty Shirt.

The Liberty Shirt is a classic. It creates a sharp tailored look featuring diagonal side seams and deep hems with mitered corners.

Linda teaches a course on Craftsy called Sewing with Silks: The Liberty Shirt. Use this link to get 50% off the regular price of the Craftsy course. The class will teach you tips for sewing silks, as well as walk you through the steps to make the Liberty Shirt. Note: if you purchase the course, the pattern is included!

As Jan shows, this shirt pattern is great for more than silk.

The 100% cotton fabric from Cotton + Steel is made in Japan with the finest quality material and production techniques and features paintbrush-like motifs in citrine.

When she laid out her pattern, Jan decided to incorporate the unpainted stripe by placing it down the center back and down each sleeve. The negative space adds a really interesting design detail.

Jan uses our Tailoring Board to create perfect points. The boards are made right here in Topeka. They are an essential pressing tool with many uses - just flip it around until you find the right curve or point to get precision pressing results.
