Welcome back to the Picasso Sew Along! Today we are going to construct the Front and Back of the shirt and join them together. You may want to review the overlapping seam method that we described in the Picasso Sew Along Part One – we are going to use it a lot today. Let's get sewing!
Using the Pressing with Templates method, which was explained in the Picasso Sew Along Part One, press the top of the Pocket 1ʺ to the wrong side.
Using a ruler and Chakoner, measure down and draw a line ⅞ʺ from the top fold. Topstitch.
Place the wrong side of the Pocket on the right side of the Left Front, matching dots. Edgestitch the right edge of the pocket. Baste or use Fusi-Web to secure the left and bottom edges in place.
Prepare the Right Side Front using the overlapping seam technique explained in the Picasso Sew Along Part One by trimming off the ⅝ʺ seam allowance from the center front. Prepare the Left Side Front using the underlapping seam technique by using a ruler and Chakoner to mark a line ⅝ʺ from the center. Place a line of Fusi-Web just to the left of the chalk line, press in place.
Pull off the paper cover of the Fusi-Web. Place the center edge of the Right Front against the ⅝ʺ chalked seamline on the Left Front. Press to adhere. Edgestitch down the seam.
Using the pressing with template method described in the Picasso Sew Along Part One, press a 1ʺ hem to the wrong side of the Front. The hem will be topstitched later. Repeat the process for the Back.
Prepare your Left Back using the overlapping seam method and the Right Back using the underlapping seam method. Overlap the Left to the Right at the center back. Edgestitch.
Prepare your Front shoulder seams using the overlapping seam method and the Back shoulder seams using the underlapping seam method. Overlap the Front shoulder seams to the Back. Edgestitch.
Join us for the next installment of the Picasso Sew Along where we will attach the Neck Binding and Sleeves.
