Tame tricky-to-sew fashion knits with me, Linda Lee, in my new online Craftsy class, Sewing Fashion Knits: Beyond the Basics. Join me in the classroom, and be well on your way to confidently sewing fashion knits into designer looks.

In my class we'll start by looking at an attractive array of fashion knits: bamboo jersey, crinkles, sweater knits, slinkies, stretch lace, viscose and much more. Then we'll cover how to prepare your fabric for sewing, tips for getting selvedges to lay flat, and auditioning stitches with a sewing machine and serger. I'll also help you lay pattern pieces on grain, cut out, and mark your fabric before it leaves the table.

Let's start sewing! Together we'll explore the best seam finishes for your knit fabric, including straight and zigzag stitching on a sewing machine, and 3-thread, 4-thread, and flatlock stitching on a serger. In the next lesson, I'll teach you to stabilize areas such as the neckline, shoulder seams, armcyes, and zippers, plus how to use your differential feed to create curves that hold their shape.

Professional hem finishes will be our next topic, after which we'll cover edge finish options often seen in expensive ready-to-wear garments. Finally, I'll walk you through sewing an optional pattern for a simple shrug to practice your skills, or you can apply my tips to your own pattern. Sign up for Sewing Fashion Knits: Beyond the Basics, and learn how to troubleshoot curling edges, puckering, slippage, fabric distortion and more!

My sewing adventure began in the sixth grade, when I first started designing and selling my handmade felt hats, and later, dirndl skirts. Luckily, my father was very encouraging—he used to buy me fabric, but wouldn't bring me back to the store until I had sewed it all up!

Now, as the proud owner of The Sewing Workshop Pattern Collection, a writer for Threads, Sew News, and the author of fourteen books on sewing, I am especially grateful that he helped nurture my passion for sewing. Today, I enjoy doing the same for others. I love the interaction of teaching, and my student's questions are often an opportunity for me to learn so that I can provide them with helpful answers!

Being able to take classes and learn from your own home, at your leisure, is what Craftsy is all about. Once you sign up for a class, it's yours, and you can watch it whenever you like and as many times as you want. Craftsy classes are all filmed in high definition to ensure that you can always see every detail.

Also, when you want to see a technique more than once, without taking your hands off your project, just turn on the 30-second repeat function.

Communication is one of the most important parts of any class, and with Craftsy, you can ask questions for your classmates and me to answer. Together, we'll discuss everything you need to know to achieve stunning garments with fashion knits. If for any reason you decide this class isn't for you, you can return it for a full refund.
