Welcome to the Stafford Sew Along Part 4. Today we will be inserting the pockets. If you are just joining us, be sure to checkout Part 1: Cutting and Marking, Part 2: Topstitching Techniques, and Part 3: Sewing the Front. Let's start sewing!

On the wrong side of your Pocket, use a chalk marker to draw a line between the dots. Then, place the Pocket and jacket front right sides together, matching dots. Sew between the dots, along your chalk line. Backstitch at each end.

Press the Pocket away from the front. Clip the seam allowance to the dots and trim the seam. Understitch between the dots. To understitch, use an edgestitch foot with the needle position moved in order to place the guide blade in the well of the seam and stitch on the pocket side, also catching the seam allowance underneath. Understitching is a technique used to prevent an underlayer from rolling out to the right side and is commonly used on facings and bindings.

Press Pocket to the wrong side.

On the right side of the garment, topstitch between the dots, leaving thread tails. Pull the top thread to the wrong side and tie off.

With right sides together, sew the second Pocket to the first pocket. Finish the seam using a three-thread serger stitch.

This is the view from the front after sewing on the second pocket.
