About the Workshop
Join Linda Lee at the beautiful Chateau Dumas in Auty, France for a personalized sewing experience. In this workshop, you'll dive into a set of skills centering around the art of modern garment sewing with an artistic edge.
Using either the Chicago jacket or the London Shirt pattern, you will learn how to look at each pattern piece as a canvas for fracturing the lines. Unique pattern shapes on both patterns offer open and uncluttered spaces for design and fabric manipulation.
Sign up for Fractured in France at the Chateau Dumas.
The fabrication possibilities for this jacket are endless. The technique requires two layers of fabric, with portions of the top layer being cut away to reveal the under layer, thus creating the fractured design. Prior to the workshop, Linda will offer suggestions for fabric combinations such as linen on wool, silk on linen, cotton on silk, with lots of flattering colorway options for all seasons.
Drawing inspiration from photographs of stained glass windows, architecture, pick-up sticks, modern art, and other geometric patterns, you will first sketch a design on half-scale technical outlines of each pattern piece — two fronts, a back, two sleeves, and a collar. Once a schematic of the design is established, you will transfer your design to the fabric.
Once the fabrics are layered and basted together and the design is transferred, you will machine stitch the design on each piece of the jacket. Then you will cut away strategic sections of the design elements before constructing the jacket. After the jacket is assembled, you may choose to enhance the design by adding hand embroidery stitches and perhaps cut away even more areas.
You will also be given the opportunity to construct a tank or tee to coordinate with your jacket. Here you will learn five options for finishing the neckline of your top using select designer treatments.

Linda Lee
Linda’s training and experience as an interior designer has come in handy as she travels the country teaching the art of combining beautiful fabrics for the fashion–conscious home sewer. Along with teaching fitting skills and fine sewing techniques, she is known for designing patterns under the name of The Sewing Workshop, a line of patterns for the modern sewer who is interested in architecturally interesting styles to flatter with flare.
Along with three talented staff members, she operates out of her pattern-making studio in Topeka, Kansas, where you will find a huge inventory of fabrics that are sold online. She produces a monthly series of inspirational tutorials called Sew Confident! in which she breaks down the latest fashion trends into real-life sewing experiences for people who want to sew better than they can buy.
With ten Craftsy classes and 13 books under her belt, Linda has the depth of experience and enthusiasm needed to pass on the fine art of sewing clothes to her students.
Linda loves cats, fashion labels Marni and Akris, Roger Federer, vintage hand stitching, Fillmore Street in San Francisco, and cashews.
