Join The Sewing Workshop Team in Italy! In this relaxing retreat, you'll be spending the days immersing yourself in the cultural wonder, delight and beauty of Salina Island, Sicily. The event will take place at the luxurious Principe di Salina hotel, a wonderful location where we will be the exclusive guests at the resort, assuring a personal and curated experience.
Each day will begin with lessons in hand stitching led by Alex. Inspired by the beautiful Mediterranean setting, students will create a travel stitch fabric booklet, working to sketch, design and stitch their very own embroidery designs. Participants will also have the opportunity to embroider their own finished Crane St. Tee made in collaboration with Alabama Chanin. Each day, Alex will share her creative techniques in taking inspiration from your travels and using them to create your own embroidery stitches.
After the morning workshops, participants are invited to enjoy the full luxuries of the hotel and island. Every meal is included in this retreat; all prepared by the immaculate and savory selections of Principe di Salina hotel. Each afternoon is filled with an opportunity to explore the island and will include a visit to a local winery, boat trip, a cooking class and a beach day.
Participants will select Single Occupancy, Double Occupancy or Deluxe Double Occupancy during their time at Principe di Salina. There is also a Non-Participant option available for those who are not interested in stitching. REGISTRATION OPEN!

Getting to Salina Island
Included in the trip price is group transportation to and from Catania Airport (CTA) and Salina Island. Principe di Salina will arrange group pick-up on Sunday, May 3rd at the airport. From there, the group will travel together by private car to the port of Milazzo (1h45 drive). From there, the group will travel via Hydrofoil from Milazzo to Salina (1h30 boat ride), where a private car will be waiting to take the group directly to the hotel (15 minute drive).
The group will gather at a specific meeting point inside Catania Airport (CTA) on the afternoon of Sunday, May 3rd. Group pick-up time is TBD and will be disclosed at a later date. It will most likely be around 2:30 to 3:30pm.
Recommended Travel Arrangements:
Sunday, May 3rd: Plan to arrive at Catania Airport (CAT) no later than 3pm.
Friday, May 8th: Do not depart Catania Airport (CTA) before 11:30am.
Oftentimes, it is difficult to find a flight back to the U.S. in the afternoons, so it may be best to arrange an evening in Catania and fly out the following day. If this is the case, we recommend the Magnolia Boutique Rooms as a great option to stay close to the airport. It is a simple 5-minute walk to the airport, making early flights very easy if you are not able to fly out on Friday afternoon.
Other Travel Options:
To reach this wonderful piece of paradise, the closest airports are Catania, Palermo, and Naples. Catania Fontanarossa (CTA) is the closest and suggested airport. You may want to travel to other parts of Italy or Europe pre or post-trip. This is entirely up to you how you arrange your travel -- just be sure to meet the group at the meeting point on Sunday, May 3rd.
Mobility Notice:
Salina Island is a very hilly, mountainous island. While this trip is intended to be a low-impact, relaxing retreat, please note that choosing to walk through the island would require a moderate level of activity. Participants should be aware of uneven ground in cobblestone pathways, step-only access for certain parts of the hotel, efforts in good balance and comfort handling luggage through the airport and boat trip, and comfort walking across pebbled beaches. If you enjoy hiking, there are many wonderful trails and routes across the island for a variety of skill levels. Participants should expect to walk 1 mile per day, minimum, at various levels of incline.
