The big sewing show in Puyallup, WA, Sewing & Stitchery Expo, is always a great place to see fabulous new products and what people are doing with them.
My friend, Karen Tornow from Corvalles, OR made a long, narrow scarf that I loved. She used a lightweight viscose knit fabric doubled and sewed stipple type stitches all over it using Chizimi thread. After sewing all the stitches she held a steam iron over the scarf and watched it shrink up to become a cuddly wonderfully-textured scarf. I have since seen this same technique done on everything from velvet (which is to die for) to silk doupioni to crisp organzas.
